23 Apr What Does “Platinum Invisalign Provider” Really Mean?
If you are reading this blog then you, like me, use social media. Tik tok, Instagram, Facebook (only if you are over 40!) are all great platforms for searching up about services that we might be looking for. This includes having your teeth straightened and whitened – the best known brand for teeth straightening is Invisalign. These are clear aligners which gradually straighten the teeth – they are easier to wear than traditional fixed brace and very popular. InvisalignTM is a huge company that has been using clear aligners to straighten teeth for well over 15 years. They are the market leader for good reason and treat the most patients worldwide of any clear aligner company in the market. They are my clear aligner of choice – they invest huge amounts of money into research and development to ensure they stay one step ahead of the rest of the market. And that’s why I stick with them.
But what does it mean when adverts say the dentist or orthodontist is a Platinum or Diamond Invisalign provider?
Invisalign incentivises dentists and orthodontists to start cases by offering a discount on the manufacturing cost of the aligners – the more cases you start, the bigger the discount. Simple! The more case starts, the higher level you reach – gold, silver , platinum and so on to diamond provider.
Incentivising isn’t a problem per se but this can be misleading for you the consumer, when you are looking for the person you want to trust to straighten your teeth. The level of provider a dentist is with Invisalign is determined by the number of case starts and not the quality of the outcome. What do I mean by outcome? Well, outcome can be measured as: was the patient happy with the result at the end of treatment? Were the teeth aligned? Was the occlusion / bite ok and will the teeth be stable in the future?
Starting a high number of cases may mean that for a dentist, you might have a very efficient Treatment Coordinator who has worked hard to promote you on social media and has lined up plenty of patients for the dentist. So that gets you to Platinum provider status. It’s important that as a customer you are happy that the professional you are trusting to create your new smile, is going to get you the outcome you are going to be happy with.
So how do you find out if the dentist straightening your teeth is going to get you the outcome you are looking for?
Many practitioners post pictures of cases they have treated on their social media. This is a good place to start – see if there are pictures of teeth that look similar to yours and see how they turned out. Have a look at the practice website – do you get a good feeling about the practice and the way they deliver care. Are they about offering a discount or are they about improving your dental health? Look for testimonials and recommendations – this is a great way to gauge other patients’ experience of the service at the practice. And give the practice a call – did you get a good vibe from the receptionist or the treatment coordinator? You are going to be visiting that practice several times over the course of your treatment so make sure you enjoy going there. Good luck!
