During Invisalign Treatment

Fit Aligners

Your aligners will be fitted by one of our clinicians. They will guide you on how to look after them at this appointment. You will be sent away with your aligners and will be responsible for changing them every week. You must wear your aligners for 22 hour a day and take them out for eating and drinking anything other than water. It is advisable to take them out for contact sports and swimming.

Tooth coloured attachments are added to the tooth surface. They grip the aligner and help with moving teeth to their desired locations. Interproximal reduction will be performed if space is needed to help with teeth movements, this is achieved by removing a small fraction of enamel with a thin strip. This procedure will not cause harm to your teeth and will not cause sensitivity.

Virtual care

You may opt into Virtual Care, this app is designed to monitor our patients via Invisalign app.

We will request photographs to monitor your progression.

This can be done in replacement of physical appointments.

End of Invisalign Treatment

Finishing touches

We will finish treatment when you are happy with your result. Depending on which Invisalign treatment you choose you will be able to get a free set of additional aligners for further refinement. Your attachments will be removed and your retainers will be fitted. You may decide you would like to do some whitening which we can be discussed at this appointment

Your teeth will always want to move back into its original position. You will get removable plastic retainers to wear long term to keep the teeth in alignment. Fixed retainers can be used as an additional form of retention. Fixed retainers are glued to the back surface of the front teeth. You are still required to wear your removable retainers.

Retainer review

Dr Richardson will see you 6 months post treatment to review your retainers.

Frequently Asked Invisalign Questions

Our experienced orthodontists answer your frequently asked questions about Invisalign

Is Invisalign painful?

Invisalign uses very gently pressure to move teeth into alignment so there is very little discomfort. You will be aware of the aligners to start with but after a few days you will soon forget they are there.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Treatment times depend on the type and amount of tooth movements we are needing to use. A simple crooked tooth may move within a matter of weeks, more complex movements may take several months. The beauty with this digital treatment planning is that we are able to estimate how long your treatment will take.

How much does Invisalign cost?

Invisalign aligners cost between £2000 and £4500 depending on the types  of movement required. Our team will spend time to ensure you have a good guide as to your treatment costs before you start any treatment.

Will I need to wear a retainer after Invisalign treatment?

After your Invisalign is complete, there remains a possibility that your teeth may move back towards their original position. This is called relapse. To stop this happening you will receive three sets of Vivero retainers with full instructions as to wear time.

Where can I learn more about Invisalign?
