Dr Elizabeth Richardson

GDC 76661

Specialist Orthodontist

Career

Dr Beth Richardson qualified as a General Dentist in 1999 from University of London (UMDS Guys and St. Thomas’). She spent her first year after qualifying at Birmingham Dental Hospital as as House Officer, concentrating mainly on Oral Surgery. Following this busy year, Dr Richardson completed her Vocational Dental Training in a rural general practice in the Scottish Borders. It was at this point, she realised it was time for some excitement and decided to join the British Army, completing her initial Officer training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Her Army career spanned 14 years, and included time serving overseas in Germany, the Falkland Islands, Bosnia and Iraq. In 2007, she was chosen as the military candidate to undertake Specialist Orthodontic training, returning for this to Birmingham Dental Hospital. Specialist training is 3 years of full time further study in Orthodontics, including completion of a research Masters in Philosophy. Dr Beth's area of research was in bonding of orthodontic appliances to enamel surfaces. In 2010, Dr Beth completed her orthodontic training and took up post as the Lead Orthodontist at the Centre for Restorative Dentistry in Aldershot, Hampshire; the CRD is a Military facility treating complex cases requiring rehabilitation following traumatic tooth loss as a result of Military Service.

As an Orthodontist

Dr Richardson took over Basingstoke Orthodontics from her retiring colleague, Dr Roland Smith, who established the practice 18 years previously. She is passionate about both NHS and private orthodontics and thrives on achieving the best results possible for her patients. She is certificated in many different types of braces and will taper treatment plans according to the needs of the patient. As she always says, “she’s tough on toothbrushing!” but she always has the patient’s best interests at heart.

Family

Dr Richardson is married to Bertie, who plays an active role in the management of the practice; they have two daughters Lottie and Emily, and an ageing Springer Spaniel. When not working Dr Beth is a keen runner and swimmer.
